Greetings 1B Families,

I hope that you had a great week! Please be advised that there is not school on Monday, September 16th due to Teacher In-service. We look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday.

Next week we start our first novel! Please have your child bring their copy of  Owl at Home with them to school.  Thank you!

Homework
Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags.
Please have your child practice our monthly poem for 1 minute each night. A copy of the poem will be sent home or find it here.
Nightly Phonogram Practice: f, g, j, k, w, au, aw, ck, wh, wor

Tuesday: him, today, look, did, like and wkbk pg. 41-43

Wednesday: six, boy, book, by, have and Unit 1-3 Test B
Thursday: Review all Spalding words and Unit 4.1 Test B 

Friday: Please read a book of your child's choice for 15 minutes.

Academic
Poem for September: The Pasture by Robert Frost. (Recite on 9/27). We will practice this poem daily in class. Please help us by practicing it for one minute each night. 

Idiom: If at first you don't succeed, try try again!

Meaning: Never Give Up! We will practice this idiom in class with special worksheets and activities. 

Grammar/ Writing: We will read and write about narrations from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. 

Spalding: Since there is no school on Monday, we will learn just 10 new words this week. On Thursday, we will review all 10 words. On Friday, we will have a test on all 10 words and 10 phonograms.

Literature:  This week we will begin our first novel Owl at Home! Please ensure that your child brings their book to school on Tuesday, September 17^th. Thank you!

Math: This week we will begin subtraction.  We will focus on identifying the whole (the larger number) and finding the missing part!  Students may need some support as they switch gears from addition.

Science: Our habitat exploration will continue with saltwater and freshwater habitats, comparing their similarities and differences. We will explore the underwater life that lives in both of these fascinating habitats. 

History: This week our scholars will continue learning about the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia. They will learn how Mesopotamians viewed their gods, the importance of temples, and hear the myth of Gilgamesh.
