Greetings 1B families ,

Our class greatly enjoyed learning about shapes this week including taking part in a shape scavenger hunt shown above.


Next week, we are looking forward to our winter concert and sharing all of the wonderful songs that we have been working so hard on.  Please see below for important details pertaining to the evening.

 Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags and bubblegum math practice for 2 minutes.
Please have your child practice our monthly poem for 1 minute each night. A copy of the poem will be sent home or find it here!

Spelling Bee Information

Dear Parents, 
It is my pleasure to announce that Spelling Bee season is upon us! Your child will be participating in a class Spelling Bee during the week of November 18th. Please use the word list sent home with them on Friday to study and make sure to read over the Spelling Bee letter for important dates and details. It is not mandatory for your child to study at home, however we recommend that all children participate in the class bee! Please reach out to me at any time if you have questions or concerns.

Our Winter Concert

THIS WEDNESDAY, November 20th! It will be at Higley Center for the Performing Arts: 4132 E Pecos Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85295. Please have your kindergartners at Higley Center for the Performing Arts by 4:45pm and 1st and 2nd graders there at 5:00pm.
Students’ attire for our performances is NOT school uniform. Gentlemen are expected to wear a plain white dress shirt, black pants, black socks and black closed toed shoes. Solid dark colored vests and ties are optional for gentlemen. Ladies are expected to wear a white top, black skirt, black tights and black closed toed shoes.

Idiom: Never Leave Till Tomorrow What You Can Do Today

*Students will only recite 1/2 of the poem. (recitations on Monday, 11/25)


Spalding: We will learn 15 new words this week. On Thursday, we will review all 15 words. On Friday, we will have a test on all 15 words and 10 phonograms.

Math: We will wrap up with our unit on shape, review skills learned in first grade and will move on to measurement at the end of the week.


Literature: We will continue to read and finish “Frog and Toad Together”.

Grammar/Writing: This week we will read and write about passages from The Trumpet of the Swan. We will also practice reading and writing the 4 types of sentences: statements, commands, questions, and exclamations.



Science: Students will learn about the states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. They will be able to observe a couple of fun observations with liquids and gases.


History: We will learn about another world religion, Christianity. Students will learn about their place of worship, key symbol, and different holiday celebrations.
