Welcome to 1B!

Welcome to 1B!

Hi there,

It is a joy to be your teacher this year!  I am thrilled to see where our learning will take us.  This year marks my 12th year as a teacher!  I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL with a degree in Elementary Education and began teaching in Phoenix right away. Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a passion and desire for teaching.  Teaching is my heart and I am thankful every day to be a part of the lives of my students!

Phoenix has been my home for the last 11 years and I have been enjoying desert life ever since.  When I’m not teaching or preparing things for my class I enjoy hiking, practicing yoga, spending time with family and friends, DIY projects and volunteering at my church. During breaks, I love traveling to new places and visiting my family in the Midwest. I look forward to learning about your interests and activities!
I am anxiously awaiting meeting you and know that we are going to have a wonderful year together!
Ready to learn and grow with you,
Ms. Dawson

Meet our TA!
My name is Josephine Cardinal-Kiss, and I am a second generation Arizonan. I grew up as the only child with my family in the East Valley area, and I attended Arizona State University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in English in 2015. Before coming to Great Hearts to teach Athenaeum in 2016, I worked at a preschool, as a nanny to a three-month-old, and at a writing tutoring center.
In my spare time, I love to read, practice yoga, and eat great food. I have a wonderful husband and a fuzzy gray cat at home that keep my life entertaining and full of joy.

I truly love to see young people make new discoveries about themselves and about the world around them! I am so excited to start this new journey as a first grade TA with Ms. Dawson, and to begin our school year in 1B! I am looking forward to meeting each new student, and discovering their unique personality traits and insights.
